Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF INDONESIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the United Nations, Makmur Widodo, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.

Mr. Widodo most recently served as his country’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.  He began his close association with the United Nations in 1986, when he served his first position in Indonesia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.  He held that post until 1991.  From 1993 to 1997, Mr. Widodo served in Indonesia’s Permanent Mission at United Nations Office at Geneva. 

Mr. Widodo began his long diplomatic career in the Department of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta in 1975.  Five years later, he served at Indonesia’s Embassy in Stockholm.  He held that post until 1984.

Mr. Widodo returned to Indonesia’s Department of Foreign Affairs in 1997, where for the next two years he served as Director for International Organizations.

Born on 1 August 1945, in Surakarta, Indonesia, Mr. Widodo graduated from Gadjah Mada University in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, in 1969.  He is married and has three children.
