Biographical Note


NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Husein Zivalj, the new Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.


Before this appointment, since January 1997, Mr. Zivalj was Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.  From July 1995 through 1996 he was his country’s Ambassador to Austria and worked there as Counsellor for his embassy from 1994 until June 1995.


Mr. Zivalj was the Laboratory Director at Metal Industries Inc. in Clearwater, Florida, United States, from 1989 until 1993 and Research Engineer of Unioninvest Company in Sarajevo from September 1987 until January 1989.  He was Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo from 1981 to 1983 and Lecturer in Thermodynamics and Technical Mechanics at the Sarajevo Technical School from 1976 to 1983.  From 1974 to

1976 he was Design Engineer at Energoinvest Company in Sarajevo.


Mr. Zivalj received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sarajevo in 1974 and a Master of Technical Science degree from the same university in 1986.


Born 2 April 1949 at Zivaljevici, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Zivalj is married, with three children.
