NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GUINEA-BISSAU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Luzéria dos Santos Jaló, the new Permanent Representative of Guinea-Bissau to the United Nations, presented her credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to her current appointment, Ms. dos Santos Jaló served as the President of the Institute of Women and Children in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, from 1999 to 2000. From 1986 to 1995, she worked in several offices of her country's Ministry of Finance, including the Bureau of Studies, the Department of External Debt, the Department of Budget and Investment, the Revenue Department, and the General Inspection of Finance. From 1974 to 1976, Ms. dos Santos Jaló taught in a primary school in Bissau.
Ms. dos Santos Jaló completed a Masters degree in economics from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, in 1998. In 1986, she received a degree in economics from Karl Marx Institute in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Ms. dos Santos Jaló was born in Guinea-Bissau on 24 August 1955.
