NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NICARAGUA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Eduardo J. Sevilla Somoza, the new Permanent Representative of Nicaragua to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Before his current appointment, Mr. Sevilla served concurrently as his country's Ambassador to both Argentina and Uruguay. From 1978 to 1979, he was the First Secretary of the Nicaraguan Embassy in Washington, D.C., after working with Nicaraguan missions to international conferences.
From 1979 to 1987, he held a number of positions at real estate and trade firms located in the United States. During that period, he also served as the Executive Vice President of the Nicaraguan Foundation for Democracy and Development (FNDD), a humanitarian foundation promoting unity among Nicaraguans living abroad.
Mr. Sevilla received his Bachelor's degree in International Studies in 1982, after attending the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, in Washington, D.C., and the Universidad Centroamericana School of Law in Managua. He completed other courses in business and law at institutions in the United States and Nicaragua. He is a member of the International Law Association of Washington, D.C.
Born on 26 June 1953 in Washington, D.C., Mr. Sevilla is married and has three children.
