SECRETARY-GENERAL EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES AT DEATH OF LEAH RABIN, PRAISES COURAGE, CONTRIBUTION TO PEACE

20001113

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

I was very sad to hear of the untimely death of Leah Rabin. I feel privileged to have known her. She made a great contribution in her own right to the cause of peace after the assassination of her husband. She endured her last illness with the same unswerving courage that she demonstrated in working to pursue and preserve Yitzhak Rabin’s greatest legacy -– the peace process. I send my deepest condolences to her family, as well as to the Israeli people.
