WORKSHOP ON 'BUILDING CONFLICT PREVENTION CAPACITY: METHODS, EXPERIENCES, NEEDS' TO BE HELD AT HEADQUARTERS

NEW YORK, 6 November (United Nations University) -- A workshop on "Building Conflict Prevention Capacity: Methods, Experience, Needs" will be hosted by the United Nations University in New York on Tuesday, 14 November, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will take place in Conference Room A in the Secretariat Building. The purpose of the workshop is to disseminate the results of ongoing activities carried out by the University designed to develop and translate scholarly and field-informed work into conflict prevention policy at sub-national, regional and global levels.

The theme of the workshop will focus on the conceptual and operational challenges of conflict prevention and lessons to be learned from regional approaches and experiences for major stakeholders interested in enhancing the effectiveness and utility of conflict prevention. There will also be a roundtable discussion on training and capacity-building.

Speakers at the workshop will include David Carment, Professor at Carleton University and Harvard University, Albrecht Schnabel, of the United Nations University, George d'Angelo and Derek Boothby, Consultants of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs, Barnett Rubin, of New York University, and Andrew Mack, of the Strategic Planning Unit, Office of the Secretary-General.
