TALKS ON WESTERN SAHARA HELD IN BERLIN 28 SEPTEMBER

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The direct talks on Western Sahara between the Government of Morocco and the Frente POLISARIO took place in Berlin on 28 September under the auspices of the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, James A. Baker III, pursuant to Security Council resolution 1309 (2000) of 25 July. The meeting was again inconclusive. The Personal Envoy will make his recommendations to the Secretary-General as to whether there should be a follow-up meeting.
