TV PROJECTION SCREENS IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY HALL EXTENDED

20000913

The two large-scale television projection screens installed in the General Assembly Hall for the Millennium Summit have proved so successful and well-liked by delegations that their use has been extended for an additional two weeks beyond the Millennium Summit, to cover the General Debate period of the General Assembly session.

The screens, which measure 11.5 feet by 20 feet, allow for United Nations Television’s images to be magnified and projected in a high-definition TV (HDTV) signal, giving even the furthest rows of the Hall a sharp, movie-format view of the speaker at the podium.

The screens, as well as all HDTV cameras and projection equipment, were provided by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) for the Millennium Summit. The high-definition projection in the General Assembly Hall will be continued through the conclusion of the Millennium Assembly general debate on 22 September. Both the equipment and the coverage are being run by United Nations Television staff.
