NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GUINEA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

François Lonseny Fall, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Guinea to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary- General Kofi Annan.

Prior to his present appointment, Mr. Fall held a number of high-level positions within his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most recently, from 1996, he was the Director of Legal and Consular Affairs. From 1995 to 1996 he was the Deputy Director of the same department, and in 1993, he served as Head of Division of Consular Affairs.

Earlier in his diplomatic career, Mr. Fall was First Counselor in the Permanent Mission of Guinea to the United Nations, a position he held from 1990 to 1993. He also served as First Counselor in the Embassy of the Republic of Guinea in France (1989-1990), Nigeria (1985-1989) and Egypt (1982-1985).

Over the years, Mr. Fall has represented his Government in a variety of conferences and seminars. In 1999, he was the Head of the Guinean Delegation at the fifty-fifth session of the Committee on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination held in Geneva, Switzerland. He also lead his country’s delegation to both the 1997 Diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of the Convention on the Prohibition of Land Mines held in Oslo, Norway, and the 1993 Conference on the Law of the Sea held in Kingston, Jamaica.

Mr. Fall holds a Masters Degree in Law from the Conakry University in the Republic of Guinea.

Born on 21 April 1949, Mr. Fall is married with four children.
