UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL TO HOLD GRADUATION CEREMONY AT GENERAL ASSEMBLY HALL ON 20 JUNE
20000616The United Nations International School (UNIS) 2000 graduation will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 20 June, in the General Assembly Hall. Isabella Rosellini will deliver the commencement address to the UNIS class of 2000. Ms. Rosellini, internationally renowned model and actress, also developed her own brand of cosmetics and most recently became an author. Her fictional memoir, Some of Me, was published in 1999. Ms. Rosellinis children, Elettra and Roberto, both attend UNIS.
This years graduating class of 114 young men and women represents 40 different nations and cultures. By learning and socializing together on a daily basis these students have demonstrated that political, geographical, racial and cultural differences are minor in comparison to what they have in common. At UNIS these students have received an education that prepared them for the twenty-first century.
The UNIS was founded in 1947 by a group of United Nations parents to provide an education for their children that fostered global sensitivity. What began modestly as a nursery school for 20 children is now a co-educational college preparatory school enrolling 1,487 children from 111 countries. A suburban campus in Queens houses 217 students from kindergarten through grade 8 while the Manhattan campus enrolls 1,270 from kindergarten through grade 12. The UNIS serves a wide range of families living in the New York metropolitan area, including many affiliated with the United Nations and the citys international community.
The K-12 programme of study is a rigorous one, culminating in the UNIS and/or International Baccalaureate Diploma. The International Baccalaureate Diploma qualifies graduates to apply to universities throughout the world.
