NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SLOVENIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia, Ernest Petric, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Prior to his present appointment, Mr. Petric served from 1997 as State Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.
From 1992 to 1997 he was the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the United States, and, from 1994 to 1997, served concurrently as non-resident Ambassador to Mexico.
He was Ambassador of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to India and Nepal from 1989 to 1991.
From 1972 until the present, Mr. Petric has held several high-level academic positions, including Professor of International Law at the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1983 to 1986, and Professor at the Faculty of Sociology, Political Sciences and Journalism at the University of Ljubljana, where he was Dean from 1987 to 1989.
He served as Minister of Science and Technology of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia from 1967 to 1972.
Mr. Petric holds a doctorate in international law from the University of Ljubljana.
Born in 1936 in Trzic, Slovenia, he is married and has three children.
