NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GHANA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Ghana, Nana Effah-Apenteng, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.

Mr. Effah-Apenteng, who joined the Ghanaian Foreign Service in 1970, served most recently as the Supervising Director of Administration in his country's Foreign Ministry. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission, from 1993 to 1997, in the Ghanaian Embassy in Washington, D.C. He also served, first as Chargé d’affaires and later and as Deputy Chief of Mission, in the Ghanaian Embassy in Rome from 1988 to 1990. He was also a Counsellor/Minister Counsellor in the Ghanaian Embassy in Moscow from 1986 to 1988.

From 1992 to 1993, he was the Director of the Estates and General Services Bureau in the Foreign Ministry. He was Deputy Director, from 1990 to 1991, of the Non-Aligned Movement Secretariat, which was responsible for Ghana’s preparations for hosting the tenth Non-Aligned Movement Ministerial Conference. From 1991 to 1993, he served as Assistant Director of the International Conference Centre in Accra.

Mr. Effah-Apenteng received a diploma in international relations in 1975 from Oxford University. He also received a diploma in public administration in 1974 from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. He was graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science (1968) and a Master’s degree in African Studies (1970).

Born in Bombata, Ashanti, Mr. Effah-Apenteng is married with three sons. He is the Paramount Chief of Bombata Traditional Area, Ashanti.
