SECRETARY-GENERAL DEPLORES MOUNTING VIOLENCE, CASUALTIES IN LEBANON REGION

The following statement was issued this afternoon by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General deplores the escalation of violence around Lebanon since last Wednesday that has caused casualties among civilians on both sides, including the death of two Lebanese women. He calls on both sides to desist from further violence and in particular to cease all attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
