SAKIUSA S. RABUKA (FIJI), PRESIDENT OF SEABED COUNCIL FOR 2000

KINGSTON, 22 March -- Sakiusa S. Rabuka (Fiji), who was elected today as President of the Council of the International Seabed Authority for its sixth session (2000), is a Legal Adviser to the Fijian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its representative at the current and previous sessions of the Authority.
Mr. Rabuka was Deputy Permanent Representative of Fiji to the United Nations in New York from 1997 until January 2000, taking up the Foreign Ministry post the following month.
Since 1976, he has held Government posts with the judiciary and the Attorney General's office.
Born on 20 December 1951 at Drekeniwai, Lakaudrove, Fiji, he holds a Master of Laws degree from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (1976).
Mr. Rabuka is married and has three children.
