NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF FRANCE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Jean-David Levitte, the new Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.
Until his appointment, Mr. Levitte had been the Diplomatic Adviser to the President of France since 1995. He was Director-General for Cultural, Scientific and Technical Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1993 and 1995. He served as Director of the Ministry's Department for Asia and Oceania from 1990 to 1993.
Mr. Levitte's diplomatic service includes postings as Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva from 1988 to 1990, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of France in New York (1981-1984) and Third Secretary at the French Embassy in China (1972-1974).
Mr. Levitte was educated at the Institute of Political Science and the National School of Oriental Languages.
Born on 14 June 1946, Mr. Levitte is married with two daughters.
