University-level students from around the world are invited to participate in this inaugural event -- the first-ever university-level United Nations simulation held in its entirety at United Nations Headquarters. The conference, which is included in the United Nations calendar of events for the observance of the new millennium, will take place in the weeks leading up to the Millennium Summit of the United Nations General Assembly, which is scheduled for 6 to 8 September.
The highlights of the conference include:
-- 10 August, substantive briefings by missions, non-governmental organizations and United Nations staff at the United Nations;
-- 11 to 13 August, Model United Nations simulations at the United Nations;
-- Simulations of the General Assembly Plenary, Economic and Social Council Plenary, Security Council and Historic Security Council (1956);
-- and a Web page: www.unimun.org, for further information.
University-level students from around the world, as well as the staff of Model United Nations conferences hosted at the university level, are welcome to participate at the International Model United Nations. Individuals can sign up to represent a country on a specific committee, or a larger group can register to represent a country on all of the simulations on which it is seated. Initial country assignments will be made in the first week of March, and after that point, registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Staff of the Model United Nations will consist of many leaders from the Model United Nations world, including past and present Secretaries-General and officers from several national and international Model United Nations conferences.
