DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INFORMATION, UN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME, TO HOLD MEETING OF INFORMATION CENTRE DIRECTORS AT HEADQUARTERS, 6-7 MARCH

Strengthening the partnership between the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will be the focus of a meeting of Directors of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) at Headquarters from 6 to 7 March.

UNDP Resident Representatives/Resident Coordinators who also serve as Directors or Acting Directors of UNICs, a number of DPI UNIC Directors from all regions, as well public information officers of the Regional Commissions, will participate. The meeting will take place in Henry Labouisse Hall, UNICEF House, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on both days.

Mark Malloch Brown, Administrator of UNDP, and Kensaku Hogen, Under- Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, will lead the discussion during the opening session on 6 March, underscoring their joint commitment to closer cooperation between UNDP and DPI at the country level. A number of senior United Nations officials, as well as DPI and UNDP Headquarters staff, will participate in the discussions.

Other topics to be discussed include the promotion of the Millennium Summit, Millennium Assembly and Non-Governmental Organization Forum; and developing partnerships with the private sector and civil society to promote a better understanding of the work and activities of the United Nations.

Following the sessions on 6 and 7 March, UNIC Directors will remain at Headquarters through 10 March to meet with DPI and other Secretariat staff on issues of direct concern to their work.
