ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES REAPPOINTMENT OF PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVES OF NEW ZEALAND AND GUATEMELA AS JOINT COORDINATORS OF MILLENNIUM SUMMIT WORKING GROUP
20000111The following statement was issued today by the President of the General Assembly, Theo-Ben Gurirab (Namibia):
This is to formally announce the reappointment, as Joint Coordinators of the Open-ended Working Group on the Millennium Summit, of Michael John Powles, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of New Zealand to the United Nations, and Gert Rosenthal, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the United Nations.
These experienced diplomats served previously as Vice-Presidents of the aforementioned Open-ended Working Group. They did an excellent job, for which I am most grateful.
On the basis of their expertise, institutional memory and competence, I have, after consulting them, decided to reappoint Ambassadors Powles and Rosenthal in the same capacities, effective as of 10 January. I am convinced that I can rely on their invaluable assistance and expect to benefit from their competence.
Accordingly, I appeal to all the delegations of the United Nations Member States to cooperate with Ambassadors Powles and Rosenthal and provide any assistance they may require.
