NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF REPUBLIC OF NAURU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Nauru, Vinci Neil Clodumar, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Prior to his present appointment, Mr. Clodumar was General Manager of the Nauru Phosphate Corporation and Director of the Nauru Rehabilitation Corporation. From 1997 to 1999, he was Chairman of the Nauru Phosphate Royalties Trust and the Nauru Phosphate Corporation.

Mr. Clodumar was a member of Parliament from 1987 to 1997, elected into a seat for the constituency of Meneng. During that period, he also held a series of ministerial-level posts in Naru’s Government, including: Minister for Works and Community Service (1994-1995); Minister for Finance (1992-1994); Minister for Health and Education (1989-1992); and Minister for Justice (1989).

From 1982 to 1989, Mr. Clodumar was employed by the Nauru Phosphate Corporation as a Mining Engineer, Mining Superintendent, Operations Manager, Production Manager and General Manager.

Mr. Clodumar received a Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical), Graduate Member the Institution of Engineers -- Australia.

Born on 23 March 1951, Mr. Clodumar is married.
