SECRETARY-GENERAL DEEPLY SADDENED TO LEARN OF LOSS OF LIFE AND DEVASTATION CAUSED BY FLOODS IN VENEZUELA

The following statement was issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and devastation caused by floods in Venezuela. He extends his deepest condolences to the people and Government of Venezuela, and assures them that the United Nations will continue to assist in the relief and rehabilitation of the affected areas. He also thanks all governments and private individuals who have been assisting Venezuela at this time of need.
