NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ISRAEL PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Yehuda Lancry, the new Permanent Representative of Israel, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan this afternoon.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Lancry was a member of the Israeli Parliament from 1996 to 1999, after having served as Ambassador to France from 1992 to 1995.
Mr. Lancry served as head of Public Council of Israel Televisions Channel Two and radio in 1991. He served two terms as the Mayor of the Local Council of Shlomi from 1983 to 1992. Between 1988 and 1992, he was a guest lecturer in French literature at Israels Haifa University. From 1980 to 1983, Mr.Lancry headed the Documentary and Film Publications Department of Raphael (Authority for Defence Technology). Prior to that, from 1976 to 1980, he served as Emissary of the Jewish Agency, Youth Department, in Antibes, France.
Mr. Lancry holds a Masters Degree (1980) and a Doctorate (1986) in French Literature from Nice University.
Born on 25 September, 1947 in Bujad, Morocco, Mr. Lancry later immigrated with his family to Nahariya, Israel. He served in the Israel Defence Forces from 1966 to 1970. Mr. Lancry is married and has two sons.
