NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PANAMA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Ramon A. Morales, the new Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Before his appointment, from 1998, he worked as a corporate consultant in Panama. He was Executive Vice President of Life, ASSA Cia. De Seguros, S.A., from 1994 to 1998, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Metropolitiana de Seguros de Vida from 1973 to 1994, and Regional Administrative Manager for Central America for American Life Insurance in Panama from 1968 to 1973.

From 1967 to 1968, Mr. Morales served as Panama’s Ambassador in El Salvador. He was Charge d’Affaires in Cairo, Egypt, from 1964 to 1967 and Consul-General in Port Said in Egypt in 1963. From 1960 to 1963, he was Consul-General in Yokohama, Japan.

Mr. Morales, who is married, was born in Panama in 1933.
