NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KYRGYZSTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Elmira S. Ibraimova, the new Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the United Nations, today presented her credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Prior to her appointment, from 1998, Ms. Ibraimova served as Deputy Chief, Department of Foreign Policy, in the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

From 1996 to 1998, Ms. Ibraimova held the position of Auditor in her country’s Chamber of Accounts. During 1996, she served as Head of Secretariat in Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament.

Ms. Ibraimova also served in her country’s Parliament as Head of General Department (1992-1996) and Advisor in the Correspondents and Visitors Section (1991-1992). From 1986 to 1991, she was Second Secretary of the Regional Committee of Komsomol, Bishkek.

Ms. Ibraimova, who speaks Kyrgyz, Russian and English, studied political economy at Moscow State University.

She was born in 1962 and is single.
