SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS UNTAET DEPUTY SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR GOVERNANCE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

The following statement was issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General has appointed Jean-Christian Cady as the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Governance and Public Administration of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET).

Mr. Cady, a French national, is an expert in the field of public administration. He has extensive experience in the central Government, as well as local administration, serving as Préfet of Hautes-Alpes à Gap (1993) and of l’Aveyron à Rodez (1996). He is currently Inspector General, Ministry of the Interior.

Mr. Cady is expected to arrive in East Timor in early December.

He was born in 1943.
