NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS PALESTINIAN EXHIBIT TO BE ON DISPLAY AT HEADQUARTERS,

An art exhibit presented by the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations will be opened at 6 p.m. on Monday, 29 November, in the Public Lobby of the General Assembly building. Entitled Follow the Star: Images from the Palestinian City of Bethlehem at the New Millennium, the exhibit will be on view until Sunday, 12 December, and is associated with the annual observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Forty paintings by twelve Palestinian artists will be on display for the duration of the exhibition. Their works will depict monuments, historical sites and scenery in and around the City of Bethlehem.
The artists participating in this years exhibit are Nabil Anani, Tayseer Barakat, Rana Bishara, Talleb Dweik, Issa Deebi, Samia Halaby, Khalid Hourani, Sliman Mansour, Ibrahim Nubani, Vera Tamari, Muhammad Saleh and Valdimir Tamari. The Al-Wasiti Art Centre in East Jerusalem is coordinating this years art exhibit.
The exhibit will be opened by Ibra Deguène Ka (Senegal), Chairman of the Palestinian Rights Committee. A statement will also be made by an observer for Palestine. The Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary- General, the President of the General Assembly, the President of the Security Council, all permanent representatives to the United Nations, and high-level Secretariat officials have been invited to the opening ceremony, which is expected to last about 45 minutes. Following the statements, the Chairman of the Committee and the observer of Palestine will escort invited guests through the exhibit.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed in accordance with the provisions of General Assembly resolution 32/40 of 2 December 1977.
