MUSEUM OF TELEVISION AND RADIO, IN COOPERATION WITH UNITED NATIONS, TO HOLD ITS EIGHTH INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S TELEVISION FESTIVAL

The Museum of Television and Radio, in cooperation with the United Nations, will hold its Eighth International Children's Television Festival from 13 November to 5 December 1999 in New York. The Festival will feature outstanding children’s television programming from around the world, including two United Nations children’s videos.

Brushstrokes illustrates, through humour and abstraction, the irrationality of prejudice; Nguyamyam teaches children what would happen to their planet if inhabitants devour all their precious resources and did not take care of their environment.

Through the Festival, the United Nations and the Museum of Television and Radio seek to encourage cross-cultural awareness by educating children about the values, mores, and customs of their counterparts across the globe. The screening series runs for four consecutive weekends, each focusing on different themes: tolerance, music and magic, growing up and adventure and travel.

With the screening of Brushstrokes, the Museum will also commemorate the United Nations International Day of Tolerance on 14 November.

Workshops on the different themes will be conducted. Children from the United Nations International School, in their national dress, will assist in these workshops. Another major feature of the Festival is the “United Nations Passport” which children will receive as they checkin at the Museum's front desk. A different stamp will be issued each weekend they visit.
