HEADS OF PRINCIPAL CHARTER ORGANS HOLD SECOND ANNUAL MEETING
19991026The following statement was issued today by the Office of Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The heads of the six principal Charter organs of the United Nations (General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice and the Secretariat) held their second annual meeting this afternoon. The five Presidents and the Secretary-General briefly reviewed developments in the principal organs. Following this brief review, the meeting also discussed issues relating to humanitarian intervention (as outlined in the Secretary-Generals recent statement in the General Assembly), as well as matters relating to the application of Article 19 of the Charter, including obligation of Members to pay their assessed contributions. Discussions were also held regarding the ongoing preparations for the Millennium Summit.
The heads of the principal organs concluded their meeting by appealing to all Member States, particularly those who have failed to meet their financial obligations under the Charter, to sustain and support the Organization at this crucial time in world affairs.
