NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BURUNDI PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19991005 Biographical Note

Marc Nteturuye, the new Permanent Representative of Burundi to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Nteturuye was Director of External Security in the Office of the President from 1997 to 1999. He has served as Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office as well as senior adviser to the Prime Minister on political and diplomatic questions. Earlier, he acted as an adviser in the Office of the President with responsibility for the press and information.

From 1987 to 1991, he was Ambassador of Burundi to Kenya, which included jurisdiction for Somalia and Namibia. He also served as Burundi’s Ambassador to Rwanda from 1991 to 1993.

Mr. Nteturuye has a degree in history and geography from the University of Burundi, as well as advanced training in international relations from the Institut International d’Administration Publique in Paris.

Mr. Nteturuye, who is married, was born in Gishubi, Burundi in 1954.
