19991004

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General has noted the arrival of Foday Sankoh and Johnny Paul Koroma today in Freetown, almost three months after the Lomé Peace Agreement was signed. He trusts that they will both work resolutely towards the implementation of that Agreement, in the interest of peace and of the people of Sierra Leone. The Secretary-General also wishes to express his appreciation for the important role played by regional leaders, including President Charles Taylor of Liberia, in support of the peace process in Sierra Leone.
