SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS ALFREDO LOPES CABRAL AS HIS NEXT REPRESENTATIVE AND HEAD OF UNITED NATIONS CIVILIAN POLICE MISSION IN HAITI

The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Alfredo Lopes Cabral, who is currently serving as the Permanent Representative of Guinea-Bissau to the United Nations, as his next Representative and Head of the United Nations Civilian Police Mission in Haiti (MIPONUH).

Mr. Cabral will succeed Julian Harston, who will shortly join the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) as the Secretary-General's Deputy Special Representative.

Mr. Cabral will take up his duties in Port-au-Prince on 1 October.
