NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BARBADOS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

June Clarke, the new Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations, today presented her credentials to Secretary- General Kofi Annan.

Before her appointment, from 1995 to 1999, Ms. Clarke served as her country’s High Commissioner to Canada, and in 1998 was also designated as the Non-Resident High Commissioner of Barbados to New Zealand. Prior to that appointment, from 1992 to 1995, Ms. Clarke was the Chief Executive Officer, Women and Development Ltd. in Barbados.

From 1990 to 1992, Ms. Clarke was the Assistant Vice- President, Group Life and Health, Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society. Before that, she was the Administrative Manager, Eastern Caribbean, American Life Assurance Society (1966 to 1987).

Ms. Clarke has also been the director of a number of organizations in her country, including Barbados Rediffusion Service Limited (1978-1981); Barbados National Bank (1978-1982 and 1985-1986); and the National Petroleum Corporation.

Ms. Clarke was educated at Queen’s College Barbados and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

She was born on 21 March 1935 in Barbados and is single.
