PREPARATORY BODY IS TOLD 'CRIME OF AGGRESSION' MUST BE DEFINED TO ENSURE CREDIBILITY OF INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT
19990806CORRECTION
On page 4 of Press Release L/2931 issued on 2 August, the fifth paragraph should read:
RICHARD ROWE (Australia) said that while his delegation recognized the importance of the Preparatory Commission fulfilling its mandate in relation to the crime of aggression, the reality was that preparing proposals would take time, given the sensitivity and complexity of the issue. However, the Commission only had until June of next year to finalize the texts of the rules of procedure and evidence and of the elements of crimes. The approach advocated by the coordinator, the representative of the United Republic of Tanzania, would enable valuable consideration to be given to the crime of aggression while at the same time enabling the Preparatory Commission to focus on meeting its deadline in relation to the rules of procedure and evidence and the elements of crimes.
