HIGH-LEVEL COMMITTEE ON TCDC, IN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING, ELECTS OFFICERS FOR ELEVENTH SESSION IN JUNE

19990504 The High-Level Committee on the Review of Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries, in an organizational meeting this morning, selected the following theme for consideration by its eleventh session: "The Role of Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries in Accelerating Growth and Equitable Development through Broad-Based Partnership".

The eleventh session is scheduled to take place in New York from 1 to 4 June. The High-Level Committee is open to all States, United Nations agencies and interested intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.

Also this morning, the Committee elected Patricia Durrant (Jamaica) as its President. Mohammad Ali Zarie Zare (Iran) and Ole Peter Kolby (Norway) were elected Vice-Presidents of the Committee's forthcoming session. A third Vice-President will be elected upon the conclusion of consultations within the Group of the Eastern European States. Naceur Gharbi (Tunisia) was elected Rapporteur.

In other action this morning, the Committee adopted the agenda for the eleventh session and decided on the organization of work. Following the decision made at the tenth session of the High-Level Committee, a new format for the upcoming meeting envisions more interactive debate and the introduction of a thematic discussion as part of the deliberations.
