CHARTER COMMITTEE ADOPTS PROGRAMME OF WORK
19990412 The Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization this afternoon adopted its programme of work. The Committee will conduct its work in the form of a Working Group of the Whole until 22 April, when it will reconvene in plenary.Before the Special Committee was a working paper (document A/AC.182/L.103), submitted by the delegation of Guatemala, containing proposals on extending the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice to disputes between States and intergovernmental organizations. That topic was scheduled for consideration this afternoon.
According to the work programme, the topics to be considered are maintenance of international peace and security, peaceful settlement of disputes between States, proposals concerning the Trusteeship Council, and "allocation of new subjects, assistance to working groups on the revitalization of the work of the United Nations and coordination between the Special Committee and other working groups dealing with the reform of the Organization".
The Special Committee is scheduled to meet again in plenary at 10 a.m. on Thursday, 22 April.
