TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR DEPOSITORY LIBRARIES CONDUCTED BY DAG HAMMARSKJÖLD LIBRARY

19990322 A workshop on "United Nations Documentation: Overview and Research Options on the UN Website", organized by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, Department of Public Information (DPI), will be held from 29 to 31 March in Sofia, Bulgaria, for depository libraries in the area. Morning and afternoon sessions will be held respectively at the premises of the Applied Research and Communications Fund and at St. Cyril and St. Methodius National Library. Twenty-five librarians are expected to attend.

The aim of the seminar is to enhance traditional document research skills by giving hands-on training utilizing the latest electronic research tools developed by the Organization. It will include a programme of lectures and demonstrations on access to United Nations documentation on the United Nations website by exploring United Nations Internet databases such as the Optical Disk System (ODS), UN-I-QUE (UN Info Quest), Press Release Database, United Nations Treaty Series database, etc. In a recent survey of depository libraries, the need for such training was strongly expressed.

The Dag Hammarskjöld Library has an ongoing training programme for depository libraries and will continue to conduct similar workshops in other parts of the world in the future.
