UNIC COPENHAGEN HOLDS WORKSHOP FOR NORDIC LIBRARIANS ON UNITED NATIONS DOCUMENTATION ON INTERNET

19990322 A two-day workshop for Nordic librarians on "Research Options on the United Nations Website" was held on 18 and 19 March in Copenhagen, organized by the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) for Nordic Countries and given by Dana Loytved of the Dag Hammarskjold Library, Department of Public Information (DPI).

Twenty-five librarians from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden attended the workshop. They represented academic institutions, non-governmental organizations and governmental offices. The librarian of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague also received the training.

A research guide was introduced and discussed at the seminar to provide librarians and information professionals with the necessary tools to navigate in the United Nations home page and obtain the best results.

The research guide provides an overview of the various types of documents and publications issued by the Organization on the Internet -- including reports, resolutions, meeting records, sales publications and press releases -- and gives guidance on how to work with them. In-depth demonstrations and instructions on access and use of the United Nations Bibliographic System (UNBIS), the Optical Disk System (ODS) and UN Info Quest (UN-I-QUE) were very popular among participants. The UNIC Copenhagen home page was also presented (www.un.dk).

This was the second workshop on United Nations documentation on the Internet organized by UNIC Copenhagen.
