SECRETARY-GENERAL WELCOMES ANNOUNCEMENT THAT AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED PROVIDING FOR SURRENDER OF TWO LOCKERBIE SUSPECTS IN NEAR FUTURE

19990319 The following statement was issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement made in Tripoli today by President Nelson Mandela that an agreement had been reached, providing for the surrender of the two Lockerbie suspects in the near future. He is looking forward to receiving the relevant details of the agreement in the letter reported to have been addressed to him by the Libyan side.
