NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN JANUARY

19990104 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the new Chairmen of the United Nations security bodies for January:

Security Council

Celso L. N. Amorim (Brazil) succeeds Jassim Mohammed Buallay (Bahrain) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major General Charles G.C. Vyvyan succeeds Major General Aleksandr N. Tishchenko (Russian Federation) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
