SECRETARY-GENERAL DECIDES TEMPORARILY RELOCATED UNITED NATIONS STAFF SHOULD RETURN TO BAGHDAD

19981221 The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General has decided that the United Nations staff temporarily relocated from Baghdad to Amman on 18 December should return to Baghdad. They will travel to Baghdad by road on 22 December.

Authentication and certification of arrival of humanitarian supplies resumed at the port of Umm Qasr this morning and will resume at Al-Walid at the border with Syria and at Trebil at the border with Jordan tomorrow morning. There was no interruption to the arrival of humanitarian supplies through Zakho at the border with Turkey.
