NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GRENADA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19981221 Biographical Note

Lamuel A. Stanislaus, the new Permanent Representative of Grenada to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Before his appointment, he was Grenada's Ambassador-at-Large Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations, a position he had held since January 1997. He served as Grenada's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from May 1985 to June 1990.

Until that appointment, Mr. Stanislaus was a private dental practitioner in Brooklyn, New York, between September 1956 and April 1985. He was a resident dentist at Newark State Hospital from September 1954 to August 1956.

The recipient of numerous professional, civic and political awards, Mr. Stanislaus was educated at Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., and at Howard University College of Liberal Arts.

Born at Petite Martinique, Grenada, he is married with five children and seven grandchildren.
