SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS MURDER OF UNITED TAJIK OPPOSITION MEMBER

The Secretary-General was shocked to learn of the murder of Mr. Otakhon Latifi, a senior member of the United Tajik Opposition in the Commission on National Reconciliation, and an active supporter of the Tajik peace process. The Secretary-General condemns this murder, as he does all acts of political violence and terrorism, and hopes that those responsible can soon be apprehended and brought to justice. He trusts that the parties to the Tajik peace process will not allow this act to deter them from pursuing their efforts towards peace and reconciliation in Tajikistan.
