CLIMATE CHANGE SECRETARIAT LAUNCHES FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO WORK IN BONN
19980903 New Initiative Targets Individuals From Developing Countries or Those with Economies in TransitionBONN, 2 September (UNFCCC) -- The secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change has launched a new fellowship programme targeting young professionals from developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
Under the programme, young professionals are given the opportunity to conduct a work project of relevance to their countries on a climate change-related topic of their choice at the Convention secretariat headquarters in Bonn. Five fellowships will be awarded annually. Each will last a period of three months. A financial stipend will be provided to fellows for that period and travel costs will be covered.
Prospective applicants must be nationals of developing countries or countries with economies in transition which are currently parties to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They should normally be no more than 35 years of age, hold a Masters degree and be working in their country in a climate change-related field. Good communications skills in English are also required.
Applicants for the current selection round should contact the secretariat by 1 October.
