NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN AUGUST

19980803 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the new Chairmen of the United Nations security bodies for August:

Security Council

Danilo Türk (Slovenia) succeeds Sergey Lavrov (Russian Federation) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major General Charles G.C. Vyvan (United Kingdom) succeeds Colonel Nikolay Koval (Russian Federation) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
