UNITED NATIONS TELEVISION SERIES 'UN IN ACTION' WINS AWARD AT CHICAGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
19980728 The United Nations television series "UN in Action" received a silver plaque in the recently concluded International Communications Film and Video Competition (Intercom), run by the prestigious Chicago International Film Festival."UN in Action" was awarded the Intercom Silver Plaque in the Human Relations and Social Interests issues category. The programmes submitted for competition were nine stories on the work of the United Nations in the area of human rights -- from Tajikistan to the former Yugoslavia.
Over the years, "UN in Action" has won several awards from CNN for its reporting, including four Crystal awards in four consecutive years, from 1994 to 1997. In 1996, it won the CNN Best Contributors' award, and in 1990, it won two awards: the Best Coverage and the Reporting awards.
The "UN in Action" is a series consisting of 57 news-style featurettes per year, showcasing the work of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. It is wholly produced by the Department of Public Information (DPI) and widely distributed in five languages to broadcasters around the world.
