SECRETARY-GENERAL SPEAKS WITH PRIME MINISTERS OF INDIA AND PAKISTAN

19980601 The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General spoke to the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan over the weekend to discuss the situation on the subcontinent and to encourage them to enter into dialogue on peace and security issues, including Kashmir.

He was encouraged by their reactions and intends to continue to engage with them on these issues.
