SANCTIONS COMMITTEE REMINDS EXPORTERS TO ENSURE TIMELY DELIVERY OF HUMANITARIAN GOODS TO IRAQ

19980402 The following was issued today by the Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) (Iraq Sanctions Committee):

Pursuant to paragraph 4(b) (xi) of its report of 30 January 1998 on the refining and clarifying of its working procedures in order to expedite the approval process of humanitarian contracts under resolution 986 (1995) (document S/1998/92), the Committee has recently included in its approval letters a reminder to the exporters of the need to execute the contract in the appropriate time-frame. In this connection, all States engaged in the export of humanitarian goods to Iraq are encouraged to present applications to the Committee as soon as contracts are concluded, and that the attention of their exporters should be drawn to the reminder in the approval letters with a view to ensuring the timely delivery of humanitarian supplies to Iraq by the required delivery date as indicated in the contracts.
