TADEUSZ BACHLEDA-CURUS (POLAND), PRESIDENT OF SEABED ASSEMBLY FOR 1998

KINGSTON, 17 March -- Tadeusz Bachleda-Curus (Poland), who was elected today as President of the Assembly of the International Seabed Authority for 1998, is Vice-Secretary and Principal Geologist of the State in the Ministry of Environment Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry of Poland.

Mr. Bachleda-Curus was Assistant Professor at the University of Mining and Metallurgy, Cracow, Poland, from 1979 to 1980, from 1984 to 1985, and from 1988 to the present. He was professor titular from 1980 to 1983, and again from 1986 to 1987, at the Instituto Tecnologico de Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He has been a United Nations expert in geology since 1989.

He studied at the University of Mining and Metallurgy, Cracow (1964-1970), where he received a Master of Science degree in geophysics prospecting and, in 1978, a doctorate in the geology of deposits.
