CHAIRMAN OF COMMISSION ON STATUS OF WOMEN ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF WORK ON DRAFT RESOLUTION ON ASSEMBLY'S SPECIAL SESSION
19980312 Text, As Amended During Informal Consultations, Will Be Considered at Commission Meeting TomorrowThe Chairman of the Commission on the Status of Women this afternoon announced that the Commission had completed, during informal consultations, its consideration of a draft resolution on the General Assembly's High-level Review in the Year 2000 of the Implementation of the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Woman and the Beijing Platform for Action.
The Commission has been considering the draft text in its capacity as Preparatory Committee for the forthcoming High-level Review.
By the original terms of the draft, as introduced yesterday by Committee Chairperson Patricia Flor (Germany), the Assembly would decide to undertake the High-level Review in a special session to be held from 5 to 9 June 2000. It would also extend the Commission's session in the year 2000 by five days so it might complete preparations for the special session.
The Commission will meet at 3 p.m. tomorrow, 13 March, to consider the amended draft resolution.
