PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE ANNOUNCES NEW ACCESS BY MISSIONS TO XCHANGE, A DESKTOP PRODUCT OF LEXIS-NEXIS
19980310 The Office of Communications and Public Information (OCPI) is pleased to announce that all permanent missions to the United Nations will now be able to have direct access to Xchange, a desktop product of Lexis-Nexis, containing News, Company and Market Files of Nexis. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing value-added services, this enhanced web-based information access has been arranged by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library. This service is being provided at no cost to the permanent missions of the United Nations through 31 December 1998. Thereafter, if a mission desires to renew this service, it will be provided at a volume-driven reduced cost through the Dag Hammarskjöld Library.
Xchange features news and business information, including wires from regional, national and international newspapers, magazines, trade journals and business publications. The permanent missions will have desktop access to retrieving and printing the full text of the entire contents of the news, industry news, company financial and personnel statistics, industry forecasts, and in-depth company and market information.
The delegates and staff of the permanent missions will be able to access the service directly from their offices. The only technical requirement necessary for accessing this service is access to the Internet/World Wide Web. The user id and password will be issued by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library upon written request, which may be shared by the staff of the permanent mission but cannot be used simultaneously. For information, please contact the Resources Development Officer, Room L-166A (telephone: 212-963-5142; e-mail: cherifm@un.org).
The Office would also like to remind the permanent missions that the user id and password for accessing the Economic Intelligence Unit and NewsEdge live-time news feed may be obtained from the Resources Development Officer, Room L-166A. (For additional information on these services, please refer to Press Release PI/1048 dated 17 December 1997.)
The Office is pleased that this innovative information source and the initiative of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library have made it possible to offer these additional services.
