SECRETARY-GENERAL WELCOMES NOMINATION OF GRO HARLEM BRUNDTLAND AS NEXT DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

The Secretary-General welcomes the nomination of Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland as the next Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

He admires her as a person of vision with a strong personal commitment to the international system.

Once confirmed by the World Health Assembly, she will bring to WHO leadership, strength and inspiration. He looks forward to working with her.
